You can connect with one of the biggest social media communities without having to use your browser with the Twitter app for Windows 10. While the average user will probably be just fine running Twitter in Chrome, it's a great choice for would be influencers and social media marketers. There's definitely a benefit to having a dedicated app for each of your accounts.

The biggest distinguishing factor of Twitter is actually a restriction. Twitter posts have a character limit, and while the limit has been raised from the initial 140 characters to double that, the effect is the same. It's a format that favors brevity and wit and allows users to browse a whole lot of content in a short amount of time. That lean, mean approach to sharing messages has made it a popular platform for everyone from comics to politicians to journalists.

If you've ever experienced Twitter through your browser, the interface here will feel comfortably familiar. Just keep in mind that this is a UI that was designed for touch controls, and it's a bit disappointing that they haven't quite updated it well enough to feel natural with a mouse and keyboard. On the plus side, Twitter for Windows 10 offers the added bonus of enlarged fonts, so the visually impaired can keep up on what's going on in their feed.

But in terms of layout, Twitter is pretty functional. The Home tab is basically your news feed and provides you with the most recent and popular content from everyone you follow. And while we'd like it if the notifications were a little more prominent, they're presented front and center for your easy access. But if you're looking to find some new perspectives, you'll want to hop on to the Explore tab. These curated feeds are split up into a number of major categories like news and sports, and they make it easy to find the top trending hashtags in the Twittersphere.

There are a few lingering issues, though they're generally more a problem with Twitter in general than with the design of the app itself. Daily tweet and message limits can be a bother for massive posters - but considering that both number in a thousand or more per day, that won't be a major issue for most. Another odd decision is that you can only have one account logged in with Twitter on Windows 10. Considering that the app itself is designed for heavier duty users, it's a strange choice to include neither account sharing or even a log out button.

The Windows 10 Twitter app is a lot better than it could be, but it's still something of an odd duck. The target demographic is hypothetically social media professionals who need dedicated tools for account management. But the Twitter app offers less functionality in that regard than the website does. That said, there's a lot to love here, and we can only expect it to get better over time.
